Want to do a poll for the 400m Ringwood Gift however i need to reduce the number of options to 50. Does anyone know ofconfirmed non-starters or those with absolutely no hope whatsoever?

Field is 82 - need to take 32 out.

So maybe offer genuine chances so we can whittle down the field.

Need the info by COB Wednesday 16/1/13.

In order to have a poll up and running, we need to reduce the field to 50 options which means omitting 32 runners from the field.

OK, after going through the field, we can eliminate our first eight:

Simon FITZPATRICK 5 - Will be a scratching
Andrew CAMPBELL 17 - Finished nearly 4secs behind Mitch Hocking in his Maryborough 400m heat - 50.30 to 46.56.
Omar BAYAHOW 28 - Last H2 in 69.82s at Rye
David WOODS 39 - Last in H3 in 50.25s at Maryborough
Chris KIRKMAN 42 - Last in H6 in 53.989 at Rye
Lawrence COOP 42 - 6th H1 in 54.11 at Rye
Shane BUCKINGHAM 47 - 9th in H3 in 51.38 at Rye
Wade GIROTTO 48 - Last in H8 in 51.69 at Rye

24 to go - any confirmed scratchings?

OK time to eliminate the next 8.

Raymond KUHNELL 20 Novice - Last H2 Maryborough Novice 400m in 54.10
Max LACEY 22 - Hasn't run since 2010/2011. Returning from injury.
Darci HUGHES 24 - Novice U/18 - 53.24s at Interclub for Nunawading
Andrew LUSCOMBE 26 - 6th H3 Northcote 53.00s off 24m
Dujon FUZZARD 28 - 5th H3 Northcote 52.67s off 26m
Ben MASON 33 - Last H6 Northcote in 52.40 off 29m
Richard NORRIS 60 - 48.48s off 61m at Northcote (Back 1m)
Noel MAGHAMEZ 60 - Veteran hasn't run an open 400m for two years.

16 to go.

Time to eliminate the next 8.

Nicholas CROSS 27 - Run out in heats of Northcote, Warragul, Marborough & Rye
Andrew WILCOX 28 - 49.26 in Heat at Maryborough off 27m. Over 40 now and too many handy runners around him.
Robert KEENAN 32 - Heard on the grapevine he's a likely scratching.
Darren NAISMITH 37 - Returning from injury, will be short of race condition.
Justin COHEN 40 - Novice athlete. 4th in Maryborough Nov 400m.
Katie MOORE 53 - Doubtful starter.
Christopher DIXON 54 - No 400m of note. Ran 55.3 off 49m at Maribyrnong last year.
Laura Jane HILDITCH 60 - Scratched.

Now it's getting harder to find athletes to eliminate to get to a top 50......8 to go.

wannabe

Cross ran 46.6 at stawell last year off 32, he is very capable of winning this. May be another one waiting for Bendigo.

Capable if he was in Stawell form.
BUT he's a long way from that form and if he has been hiding, he won't show it at Ringwood. Should prob be top 50 tho.

Acording to the VAL results system, Nicholas Cross ran 48.49s off 29m in a heat of the 400m Backmarkers at Stawell.

He was also run out of his heat at Terang this year along with every other 400m event he has entered this season.

He had his first win in the Bendigo Novice 400m last year, running 47.75s off 32m.

This is a massive step up in class to the likes of Rye & Maryborough (where he failed to get past the heat) and questions would have to be asked if he came out and won the Ringwood Gift.

Thanks for that wannabe, appreciate the info. Very inconsistent with his other 400m run at Stawell Question We'll leave him out of the top 50 anyway.

Might be a little controversial but we've come up with a final 8 to be eliminated and now have the top 50 chances in the Ringwood Gift.

The final 8 to be omitted are:

Josh MATHER 7 Bendigo Black Opal winner has not recent 400m form. Ran 2-08 for an 800m at Maryborough.A7
Lachlan TAYLOR 14 - Only finished 8th in his heat at Rye in 50.98s. Not running well enough.
Augustine CARTY-COWLING 22 - No 400m runs since VRTA Nov 400m in 2009. 52.77s off 20m. Normally scratches from 400's so must be a doubtful starter.
Samuel McNAMARA 28 - Novice athlete who ran 49.74s for 5th in a heat at Rye.
Matthew SHIEL 31 - Only ran 50.05s off 31m in a heat at Rye.
PETER KNOTT 31 - Novice ran 7th H1 Terang 52.00s off 20m. Better at Rye but still not ready.
Matthew D'ASTOLI 32 - Veteran with no 400m form of note. Northcote - 50.82s off 30m.
Kara BULL 60 - Would normally have a bigger mark in an Open 400m.

Had to feel a little bad for Bayahow, he was tripped in his heat while passing a front marker, looked the goods with 150 to go.

Jay Blake is always dangerous off his front mark which was 47m prior to his win at Rye.He's Still running off 44ish Meters and ran 46secs at Northcote a fair while ago. Quality runner and if he turns up solely to win the 400 he's my pick.

Just to correct your above statement, Bayahow was not tripped. In fact he came in minor contact with a runner he was closely following, then hit the deck. I was no more than 5 metres away and I can assure you no other athlete was in any way responsible. The stewards also cleared it immedietely.

Looking forward to the Ringwood Gift. For what it's worth the best three 400s I've seen this season were Sam Baird in the novice 400 at Maryborough, Mitch Hocking in the open 400 at Maryborough and Kath Clark at Rye and Warragul. Clark may also completely change the dynamic of this race as when the lads get to her, you can guarantee she will kick as she always does, which could cause some difficulties for the backies in working their way through.

have to be guided by you mark as you are there every week and you certainly know whats going on if k clarke runs 46s off 48m is that equal to a 52s 400? that will be a hell of a run

Probably not that fast. 46.0 @352m is 7.65 m/s, which translates to 52.3s over the full 400. But the beauty of running only 352m is that an athlete can maintain a higher average speed than over the full 400, avoiding the final, and frequently significantly slowest, 50m, where speeds can drop below 6m/s for a poorly paced race.

as i said 52s or 52.3s still a hell of a run

Tabitha West won the Ringwood Gift in 46.31sec from the same mark Katherine Clark will run from on Sunday. Is Clarke as good as West? Winning time will probably be similar.

Nice work ToM.
Lee Forrest was a big flop, never looked likely to challenge. Blake got under the handicappers guard. He's too good to be running off 44m. Baird was stiff. Huge talent and must be favourite for Bendigo.

Fair comment trackstar, blake ran well from his handicap and thats what its all about get a mark and win a good race kathryn clarke also ran a great race off a good mark and nearly pinched it baird off 20m is a terrific prospect and unfortunately for him when you can run 46s off the novice mark its hard to get a lift.wouldnt have him favorite for bendigo as its a tight track and he will be giving a start to some very handy runners out around the 30m mark. then again he may have to run off 10m if the field is pulled back like last year.

Everyone knows Parkinson is going to win the black opal. He could probably win it off 20. His handicap is a joke.

I have my Favorite down as Parkinson as well for the Opal, 34m and counting. Looks like he can win just about anything he sets his mind on at the moment. Credit to the JH stable for getting him in the shape he is in though, the guys Stride is the best looking on the Vic circuit. Having Matty, Shaun and Chris Hargreaves to train with doesn't hurt either Wink. Great Stable and very friendly guys to have a chat with before a race.

As we all know anything can happen on race day though and yes there are some very handy runners all around the 30m mark.

Also keep an eye on Jack Dooley, can really do some damage when he is on song. Handicap may be around 30m come Opal time.

These are my top 6 contenders (not in order)

Baird
Haigh
Parkinson
Dooley
Woodrow
Fabris

When you go on to the VAL website for entries all the prize money is listed along with costs. Some events may not be up yet though.

Hope this helps mate.
