The VAL would like to advise distance athletes, that the Backmarkers Mile at Bendigo will be worth $5000, with a limit of approx.100-120m, pending entries. Flack Advisory has put up the cash to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Harry Downes running a 4 minute mile on the track.
In addition, if an athlete runs equivalent to a 4 minute mile an extra $1000 will be kicked in!

A great initiative. Kudos to those who did the work to get the extra sponsorship.

Though it makes DizzyRunner curious as to what will happen to those with marks between 100-180m (where a large portion of milers sit). Will they be shuffled into the Frontmarkers race or left with no race at all?

Bendigo also clashes with the Sydney Track Classic this year. Hopefully this doesn't dilute the field significantly.

normally at bendigo the 1600m races are brought back to scratch so therefor all runners will come back accordingly eg if you are on 150m you will be eligible for the backmarkers 1600m ( I think)
