Hobart

The Hobart carnival has been postponed to a date to be fixed. The decision follows the devastating fires which destroyed the home of Ray and Kathleen Quarrell and all the carnival gear, along with the majority of properties in Dunalley. The Tasmanian Athletic League will work with the organisers to find an alternate date for the carnival.

Appeal

The TAL has launched an appeal for Ray and Kathleen following the loss of their home and all of their possessions. Donations may be forwarded to the TAL at PO Box 3070, Ulverstone 7315 or via EFT to TAL, BSB 037 002; account number 118896.

Cash donations may be deposited to the above account at Westpac branches, marked as “Appeal”. Enquiries may be directed to TAL Secretary, Glenn Foster on 0409 869 525.

Ray is now in his 42nd year as a Trainer/Coach and 35th year as a Runners & Trainers representative, after also enjoying a successful stint as a competitor. Ray and Kathleen, together with a small band of helpers, re-instated the Hobart carnival in 1983 and have run it ever since.

All donations will be gratefully received.

Kind regards

Glenn Foster

TAL Secretary

Bushfires cancel Hobart carnival

The Advocate
Jan. 5, 2013

THE Hobart Spikes and Bikes carnival scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled due to event organiser Ray Quarrell losing his house in the devastating bushfires at Dunalley.

"We were on such a great high earlier in the week with wins at Devonport and Burnie. But we can't run the carnival tomorrow as all the equipment was at our house,'' Quarrell said today.

"It's made even more sad, as my mother grew up in the house and I'd done it up with all the family history in it.''

The Hobart Athletics Club, which organises the carnival, said it hopes to re-schedule the event soon.
