John Steffensen fires warning shot at potential boxing opponent Quade Cooper, saying he's 'ready to rumble'

Australian track athlete John Steffensen has fired a warning shot to potential boxing opponent Quade Cooper, saying he's "ready to rumble".

Steffensen is one of the latest in a recent trend of sports stars, including Cooper, expressing a desire to jump into the ring, and the rugby union troublemaker is being widely reported as his first adversary.

The Commonwealth Games gold medallist has said that the match up is certainly a possibility.

"If that pans out and it's something that Quade wants then I'm ready to rumble," Steffensen said in an exclusive interview with Fox Sports News.

"If that happens then it happens. (But) it's not my game to call out people."

Steffensen also said he has a lot of admiration for Cooper, who has recently rejected an offer from the Australian Rugby Union, especially for the way he spoke his mind about problems in Australian rugby.

"I've got nothing but respect for Quade and obviously his management," said Steffensen.

"Quade's done great things for the sport of rugby union.

"I was quite proud of him that he stood up for himself with the things he's gone through with the ARU."
