Shelly-Ann Fraser-Price wins her second Olympic gold medal

For the first time since Gail Devers won consecutive Olympic titles in 1992 & 1996, Shelley-Ann Fraser-Price retained her Olympic title when she brilliantly won the 100m in London.

After a flawless start, Fraser-Price burst to the front to lead from the outset, opening up an assailable lead. By contrast, Carmelia Jeter was slow to get going and midrace was a metre behind before working her way back into the contest. Jeter emerged clear from the group behind Fraser-Price, to claim 2nd on the line, approximately 12cm behind the winner.

Dual Olympic 200m champion, Veronica Campbell-Brown, finished a half metre behind in 3rd place, just ahead of USA duo, Tianna Madison (4th) and Alyson Felix (5th) who both recorded personal bests.

Two hours before the final, Fraser-Price comfortably won the second semi final in 10.85 to beat Alyson Felix. Carmelita Jeter backed up her very impressive heat win on Friday night, to win the first semi in the fastest semi time of 10.83. The third semi was won by Blessing OKagbare who came from near last at the half way mark to cross the line with Tianna Madison in 10.92.
