JUST months after opening the new Albert Park home of Australian athletics, Melbourne has lost the national athletics titles to Sydney.

Athletics Australia announced yesterday that the Australian athletics championships would be held in Sydney next year for the first time since 2006.

Albert Park will continue to host the Melbourne Track Classic. This year the classic was an IAAF-sanctioned event and combined the selection trial for the Olympics. The national junior titles will also move to Perth for the next four years.
