Boundary umpire Adam Coote third in Stawell Gift

By Ben Collins
Mon 09 Apr, 2012

AFL BOUNDARY umpire Adam Coote has finished third in the Stawell Gift.

Coote grabbed a place in Australia's most prestigious foot race on Easter Monday, finishing the 120m sprint just one metre behind winner Matthew Wiltshire and second place-getter Douglas Greenough.

The front-marker from 11m, Coote crossed the line ahead of pre-race favourite John Steffensen, who finished last after pulling up when it became clear he couldn't win.

Coote, 28, has officiated in 141 AFL games, including five Grand Finals. He was part of both the 2010 drawn Grand Final and the replay between Collingwood and St Kilda.

He boasts an impressive combination of speed and endurance, having won the 800m event at Stawell two years ago.
