MEDIA RELEASE
FRIDAY 30 MARCH 2012
WWW.TOMWATERHOUSE.COM

Jamaica’s Frate Train favourite to become only third Stawell Gift winner off scratch

Only two athletes have won the Stawell Gift off scratch but online bookmaker tomwaterhouse.com thinks that Michael Frater has a favourite’s chance of becoming the third over the Easter weekend.

The eighth fastest man over 100 metres in the world last year, Jamaican sprinter Frater is the $11 favourite to win this year’s renewal of Australia’s oldest and richest short-distance running race.

“With a 100m personal best of 9.88 seconds, which he ran in Lausanne last year, Olympic, world and Commonwealth sprint relay gold medallist Frater is the class of the Stawell Gift field and looks well handicapped even off scratch,” said Tom Waterhouse, Managing Director of tomwaterhouse.com.

“The Frate Train recorded sub-10-second 100m times in three of the last four years and will have a great chance of reeling in everyone to whom he gives a head start in the Victorian country town.

“Of the Australian competitors, Aaron Rouge-Serret is attractively handicapped receiving 3.25 metres off Frater and he is the $17 third favourite behind the Jamaican and Kim Collins ($15).

“John Steffensen is having another crack but, even with a 6m start, the outgoing 200m and 400m specialist looks held by many of the field, which is why he’s opened up at odds of $34.”

The 2012 Stawell Gift will take place from Friday 6 April to Monday 9 April.

Big money for Wiltshire. It just keeps coming. He's the hot favourite. They're Confident! They're backing him as if he's already won!

Betting fluctuations from what I've been reliably informed:
(under $10)
$4 Matt Wltshire
$7 Khan Marr
$8 Paul Tancredi
$9 Ed Ware (In from as much as $51)

Other moves as well as Frater & Rouge-Serret as previously posted, are Adam Coote $26 (from ($34) and Andrew Howell $26 (from $51).

The interering thing in regards to Ware & Howell is they are both with the same stable AND the stable has had placegetters before in Ian McFarlane (3rd in 2007), Richard Hankin (2nd in 2008) and Ware (2nd in 2011).
