Here's an attempt to unlock the 550 for this year.

Previous Stawell 550 winners and lead-up form below.
- Suggests you need to be in last years Stawell 550m final.
- Season 550m form not essential.
- Must have won a 400 or 800 in current season. Preference to winning over both distances

Based on above formula, the obvious one for this year is Collinge as he keeps his 24m from last year after winning big 800m at Bendigo and 2nd at Burramine 800 on reduced mark. Is known as a good 400m runner.
Spence is back slightly in handicap but did win Ballarat 400m. Has generously been granted a 1m lift since coming 4th at big Stonnington 550.
Hoskins is also back from last season but has won over 800m this season.
Yorke gone out 2m but has looked aweful recently.
Brennan sneaks under the guard here as he only goes back 1m for running 1.09 flat last year when still looking a little porky. Has gone out 3m since making Stonnington 550 final but so has 3rd placegetter Matt Grant. Has not won a 400 or 800.
Collinge the one to beat from Brennan.
