I wonder if 2012 will be a repeat of 2011?

In the 70m open it had winners only through to final. last year of which there was a heat with no runners and 2 heats with only 2 runners.

What about a repeat of 2009.
Nitta WALKED around in the OPEN 400m in the time of 55.97 to qualify in third spot, THEN ran 49.61 to win the final.
By the way his handicap in 2009 was 23m, this week 24

The Pulteney 400m is the worst attended & softest 400m on the SAAL calendar. Unless someone comes out and smashes the field in a sub 48s time, no athlete should hold a penalty for too long for winning this event. On average, 59% of the entry list doesn't turn up. In 2010 only 9 athletes turned up for the race.

Geoff Troiano in 2008 was the last person to win the race in a time below 49.5. There have been 3 heats per year for the last 4 years and of those 12 heats - the fastest time recorded in any heat was by Ben Crawford in heat 1 last year when he ran 50.43s.

Last 4 winners & times.
2011 - Nitschke 49.56
2010 - Dartnall 50.35
2009 - Nitschke 49.61
2008 - Troiano 49.08

It's not just the 400m! If coaches aren't encouraging their athletes to go then maybe the season should be shortened to finish at flagstaff or even loxton

The meeting itself is an important fixture on the SAAL calendar and serves a worthwhile purpose. Not sure why the 400m is so poorly attended, but once the final is run it's always a good race to watch and offers an opportunity for someone to see out the season with a sash.

Many athletes would be very disappointed if a meet like Pulteney was taken off the circuit, simply because the scratchings were higher than we'd like.

Not completely sure if its always the problem ,but invariably the Pultney meeting clashes with the State Champs.
State Champs are a week later this season so hopefully athletes will see it as a chance of having a good hitout for next week.
Also this weeks Athleticssa meeting is on Fri night so nothing clashes and there shouldnt be an excuses for not putting on the spikes

true that whispers but i already know of numerous runners who have gone into pre season/ off season mode and have been like this since Loxton

I hope you're right i hope it is a good hit out!

Would it make more sense to have a 120m open at Pultney and say a 300m instead of the 70 and 200? I assume those going to Stawell would prefer the 120m as the build up.
