1 Bendigo UPDATE on Sat Mar 10, 2012 8:20 pm

Just saw 6 very interesting heats of the Black Opal 400m.

And just when it looked like another MattyB trained Matthews (Jesse) was going to start favourite with the fastest time of 48.18 in heat 5, Josh Mather smashed the field in the last heat in a scintillating 47.60! Brilliant run from an exciting young talent from the Terry McGarrity stable.

Fastest up by half a second!

Heat 1 won by Dominic Hoskins in 48.59 from Fitzpatrick & Wilcox.
Heat 2 won by Rory Nunn in 49.15 from Camille & S Hargreaves.
Heat 3 won by Eric Sapac in 49.11 from Spence & Taylor.
Heat 4 won by Tom Paavola in 48.63 from Hayes-Hornibrook & Burnett.
Heat 5 won by Matthews in 48.18 from Matt Grant & C Hargreaves.
Heat 6 to 18 year old AFL boundary umpire Josh Mather in 47.60 from Naismith & Matt Hargreaves.

Semis & Final tomorrow night.

So who won?

Sorry ToM and others who were hanging out for the results, I could not stay for the final.

I had car trouble on the way back to Adelaide.

Thankfully, JH has put the results on the VAL thread.

I saw enough in the heats to work out that Josh Mather looked the winner. He was easily the most impressive....but with any race without lanes, I guess anything could happen.

Very good win for a young athlete - congrats to Josh and his coach Terry McGarity.
