For the likes of me I can never work out this programming.
Why wouldn't the program start
70m open
70m under 20's
then the 120m over 35's
Its like the Camden programming putting the 400m over 35's inbetween the 120m open semi and the 120m open final, then run the rest of 400's after that. Why is it in the middle?
Some consideration needs to be made for open and over 35 competitors that compete in both.

4 over45s may be decided at Flagstaff on Tue Feb 28, 2012 10:45 pm

"It's like the grand final for the over45s".

Arguably the Flagstaff Hill Gift Carnival's feature event is the City of Onkaparinga /Messenger Newspapers 400m which has the biggest prize fund of the year, for the over45s.

Last year local Cameron White ran past Brian Witty and Ian Reddaway to win in a very fast time.

This year Cameron has an extra 10 metres to run and looks out of the picture.

But maybe Cameron White can do a Black Caviar and win again.

Ross Hill-Brown is a 400 specialist and will be looking for a win to seal his grip on the 2011-2012 season's trophy for the over45s.

The Hyphenator is a definite chance.

Interstate raider Mark Hipworth looks a contender, with wins last weekend at Loxton and at Noble Park - but the pace will be furious and the deadly Hippo may well be way out of his depth.

Look out for Camden over35 400m winner Brian Witty, off the same 95m mark as last year when he ran second here at Flagstaff Hill.

Team Townley's scottish tiger Alex Jefferies is keen for his first sash to follow up his close second place to Ray Earle in the over35s 300m at Loxton a few days ago.

And also Cheryl Zeuner, Sue Turner, Mick Abbott, Chris Dimitrak, Richard McMahon, Ali Saliu, Mark Beveridge and Brett Stokes all have something to prove.

What a battle it will be.

In a warmup to the feature over45s 400m race, Flagstaff Hill Gift Carnival has the RoofSeal /
Mort Daly Running Foundation 120m Over 35.

Some of the season's best performers are fronting for this race, maybe because they think they have a chance knowing that the legend Brian Hart has left his spikes at home after his big win in the Hectorville 120m for over45s just eleven days ago.

But Brett Stokes, who nearly caught Brian Hart at Hectorville, is hungry for his first sash of 2012.

Likely contenders are Tim Johnson, Ali Saliu, Shane Grimwade, David Miller, Andrew Wright, Michael Cassidy, John Turner, Alex Jefferies, Sue Turner and Cheryl Zeuner.

Lyn Peake would be in the contenders list but is not expected to run because of her injury at the finish line in the Loxton 300m for over35s last weekend.

Well done Brian Witty, following up on his big Camden win by taking the big money at Flagstaff in the City of Onkaparinga & Messenger Newspapers Over45 400m.

Brian Witty held on ahead of fast finishing back marker Mark Beveridge who had beaten Brian in their heat.
(Reminds me of Brian Hart beating Brett Stokes in the over45 120m final at Hectorville after Brett Stokes had clearly beaten Brian Hart in their heat.)
(Brian Witty and Brian Hart, maybe not so pretty but very very smart.)

Chris Dimitrak scored third place, ahead of Mick Abbott, Alex Jefferies, Bill Dickenson, Brett Stokes, Ross Hill-Brown and Cameron White.

Earlier in the day, the RoofSeal & Mort Daly Running Foundation over35 120m was won by Brett Stokes ahead of Shane Grimwade and Sue Turner.

Alex Jefferies, Cheryl Zeuner, Amin Chehade, Jackie Chehade and Tim Johnson were also in the final.

In his podium speech, Brett Stokes dedicated the win to his Team Townley training partner Lyn Peake who is recovering from serious injury (broken arm near the shoulder) sustained in the finish of the Loxton Irrigation Centre Over35 400m at Loxton last weekend where Lyn finished third behind Ray Earle and Alex Jefferies.

Thanks to John LeRay and the Flagstaff mob for hosting a great event.

hey No Chance, thanks.

Yep, Brian Witty is so strong in the home straight, I know because I chased him at Camden and then again at Flagstaff. Maybe one day I will catch him ... these 400 metre races are getting a bit easier for me as I build my strength ... and I enjoy the post race near death experiences - clears out the mental cobwebs for me ...

For me the Flagstaff over35 120m was a fine win, but I feel like I blew it a bit on the podium.

Let me explain myself.

After I had crossed the line, the SAAL timekeeper Rex "Rexxy" Thompson had reminded me "RoofSeal is the sponsor - RoofSeal".

A few minutes later, proudly wearing the shiny new sash, standing on the podium towering high between Sue Turner and Shane Grimwade, I was handed the envelopes, one for me and one for my coach Paul.

The envelopes say in big letters "Sponsored by RoofSeal & Mort Daly Running Foundation ... sash donated by David Tye" ...

When it was my turn to talk into the microphone, I forgot to say thank you to the sponsors ...

So I felt like I disappointed Rexxy, but I hope he will be forgiving.

And I disappointed myself in the 400 - I thought I was ready, the heat was pretty easy, and in the final Bill Dickenson let me start on the inside (we both ran off 62 metres), I took off really fast and I was feeling great as the wind whistled past my ears running down the back straight.

As at Camden, I nearly caught Brian Witty on the bend, but not quite ... I thought that I stayed within a couple of metres of Brian almost to the line, where a bunch of youngsters ran past me, to leave me in seventh place, just a couple of metres off the big pay packet (maybe three metres, I am not sure because I was extremely fatigued).

So this winter I will work to build my strength, to take on the head winds at the 2012 Bay Sheff, and to give me speed all the way down the home straight in the 400s at Camden and Flagstaff in 2013.

And maybe I will even be ready to try the 550 at the Bay ...

I love this sport.

Well done again stokesy and a good wrap up, don't be too hard on yourself its always tricky being on the podium you never know what question you'll get asked next and before you know it you're walking back to prepare for your next race, thinking damn I forgot..... Roofseal would be happy knowing they are getting a good mention here anyway.
