Cranbourne athletics on track for many more gold medals

by Michael Randall

Cranbourne Little Athletics is set for a bright future at its new track at Casey Fields.

THE move to a state-of-the-art track at Casey Fields has ushered in the start of a golden era for Cranbourne Little Athletics Club.

The club, which moved from the grass track at Lawson Poole Reserve at the start of the season, has doubled in size in the past two seasons, with more than 330 competing members.

And it won its first gold medal at a state championships meeting.

The under-9 boys team won the medley final at last month’s Little Athletics state relay championships at Albert Park, while the under-15 mixed team won a bronze medal in the 4 x 200m.

Chairman Mark Jouvelet said the influx of members was setting up the club for a bright future, adding new members were always welcome.

This makes the SA Little Athletics Association look like its being administered in the 1950's. It seems every Victorian Little A's Club has a very supportive local council, but most impprtantly it's supported by a progressive State Little A's Association that ably assists the local clubs building tracks around around the state. SA Little A's for some odd reason does not appear to be interested in its clubs having a synthetic track and as a consequence the state has ONE track to service the entire athletic population.
