Qualified: First 3 in each heat (Q) and 2 best performers (q) advance to the Final.

Piranee Steinert, Lauren Boden, Olivia Tauro and Jody Henry ran solid throughout to record the second fastest time. Will have to probably run sub 3-30 to win a medal, as some of the other teams rested athletes and naturally enough the final will be much quicker.

Australia has won this event at the last two Commonwealth Games. In 2002 Australia ran 3-25.63 (Lauren Hewiit, Tamsyn Lewis, Jana Rawlinson & Cathy Freeman) and in 2006, Australia (Rosemary Hayward, Caitlinn Pincott, Lewis & Pitman) won in a time of 3-28.66 (after England was disqualified).

There is a suggestion in today's paper that Sally Pearson may get called up to run the final. I think this would definitely strengthen the team, especially if Pearson got to run last and could sit on someone for cover and take off with about 150m to go. If Pearson does run, I'm not sure who would go out. Steinert & Henry ran well and will definitely run the final.

Sally running in the last leg would be very exciting and I can see her taking the Aussies from mid field to a definite medal prospect.
