St Helens Carnival is on the third Saturday in January each year and this year it is on January 21st, 2012 with competition starting at 10.00am. This carnival features Running, Cycling, Chopping and for the golf enthusiast there is a "Hole in One" competition worth $1000. All in all athletes compete for over $16,000 worth of prize money.

The running prizemoney is over $5000 and increasing each year. A member of SCAT, St Helens is supported by the Tasmanian government but they raise the bulk of the money from local business and Council.

This year St Helens features the Shannons Insurance sponsored CAR & BIKE SHOW with exhibitors invited from all over Tassie and interstate in many categories of Cars and Bikes.

The Carnival is held on the Sporting Complex in Tully St at the northern end of St Helens which is on Tasmania's East Coast approximately 170km or two hours drive from Launceston. The regional centre for the Break O'Day Municipality, St Helens is dependant on fishing, tourism and agriculture.

The Events on offer at St Helens this year are:
  • 70m Maiden Handicap $300

  • 70m Men's Handicap $300

  • 70m Women's Handicap $300

  • 120m St Helens Men's Gift $1,150

  • 120m St Helens Women's Gift $1,000

  • 300m Masters Handicap $150

  • 400m Men's Handicap $500

  • 400m Women's Handicap $500

  • 1000m Open Handicap $1000

  • 3200m Open Handicap $500
