Heat 1. Burbidge 18m, from Hargreaves, Matt, and Spence. 48.88
Burbdge pulled up well short of the line after taking the lead easily and cruising. At least two 400m runners spoke to DizzyRunner mystified about Burbidge’s mark.

Heat 2. Waldron 16m, from Cole. 46.98
Amazingly, Waldron came back after Cole took the lead with 150m to go, and then slowed down the straight.

Heat 3. Lahey 24m, from Coote. 48.04
A comfortable win for the yellow who was closely tracked by Coote all the way around. Special mention to Clinton Gray whose dead last performance can be explained by his easy win in the 70m 20min later, and the heavy beard he had to drag around the track.

Heat 4. Robinson, 28, from Hargreaves, Chris, and Wurm. 47.11
Hargreaves took the lead down the back straight after an excellent start but was caught by a fast finishing Robinson. Wurm finished well but caught a glimpse of himself in the reflection of the van at the end of the homestraight and lost focus.

Heat 5. Gilroy 25, from Nichols and Fitzpatrick. 47.57
A good first 200m from Fitzpatrick in the red could not be maintained for the whole distance as Gilroy went on to win easily. 2nd to Nichols is interesting given only a 2m pull after his win at La Trobe 2 days ago.

Heat 6. Gates 28, from Storta and Hargreaves.S. no time
It was an easy win for the Pink, Gates, who never looked in danger. The only threat were the massive lats of Matt ‘the Greek God Body’ Grant which at one point looked like engulfing the field. Storta was second whilst rumours of an S.Hargreaves injury, caused by handing out the masses of presents found under the Hargreaves Christmas Tree, proved to be unfounded as the Red finished strong to finish third.
