• For all races at the Bay Sheffield Carnival, you must either accept if you are running, or scratch if you are not.
• ACCEPTANCES – For all races EXCEPT the 120m Open Bay Sheffield - 1 hour prior to the FIRST heat of your event
o (i.e. if you are in the 10th heat of an event, you must accept 1 hour before the FIRST heat is scheduled to start.) If you do not accept you will NOT be permitted to run – regardless of whether the bookmakers are accepting betting on your particular race.
• For the 120m Open Bay Sheffield - your acceptance time is 12:30pm on 28 December 2011 – due to the Calcutta starting at approx. 12:45pm.
• As per previous years, you will not be permitted to accept for events run on day 2 before day 2. Only exception to this – 120m Open Bay Sheffield acceptances can be made on Day 1.
• Acceptances can only be made personally (i.e. done in person on the day – you CANNOT get you coach or any other person to accept for you.)
• Picking up your program IS NOT ACCEPTING. To accept for a race you must personally sign your name on our acceptance forms – which will be available on the day of your race.
• SCRATCHINGS – 1 hour prior to the FIRST heat of your event – if you fail to scratch in the appropriate time frame you will be facing a $25 fine (per race)
• You may have someone else scratch you from a race – and it can be done in person or via SMS to 0434 549 184.

It concerns me that a number of athletes (whether new or not) regularly need to be reminded to observe the rules of competition. In particular:
• Correct finishing techniques - Athletes shall breast the finishing line. Any athlete touching or attempting to touch the tape with forearm (from upper arm to fingers inclusive) before breasting it will be fine and / or disqualified. All coaches / trainers are requested to ensure athletes breast the tape correctly.
• Collection of colours - Athletes shall personally obtain their colour from the Colour Stewards at least 10 minutes prior to the programmed starting time of the event. If there are limited colours available the athlete must wait there until one becomes available. NOTE it is the athlete’s responsibility to ensure they have a colour (must be over a singlet - not T-shirt).
• Head gear & long pants may only be worn by permission of the Chief Steward
• Other than Officials of the meeting, only competitors taking part or due to take part in an event or representatives of the SAAL shall be allowed within the arena except with permission of the Chief Steward. This means no coaches allowed without authority.
• When a race is about to commence, athletes on the arena must be seated until the completion of such event. Athletes should be seated when athletes are being "sent to their marks".
• The Chief Steward has the right to impose fines & / or disqualify or suspend athletes or coaches, as well as question athletes in regards to their performances or declarations made to the office. Phil Daws

In addition to what has been highlighted from the Chief Steward above, the Management Committee would like to take the opportunity to remind all athletes about the rules of competition that all athletes and coaches are required to follow. A list of rules can be found on the website and Michelle / Deb generally have a hardcopy of the rules at each meet. All athletes and coaches should remind themselves of these rules.

Related to the rules – please note that all athletes MUST provide the league with their lists of Personal Bests, as well as details of their last 10 races outside the SAAL – including but not limited to ASA races, VAL, TAL races etc. It is not up to the office staff or the handicappers to research this information – it is expected that you declare it. If results are found that have not been declared you could face handicap penalties, reduction of prize-money / fine or disqualification.
