Micah Kogo confirmed for ZATOPEK:10

Olympic bronze medallist Micah Kogo of Kenya has been confirmed for the field of next week’s Zatopek:10.

Arguably the best-performed international athlete ever to line up in the race’s 50-year history, Kogo is the sixth-fastest man

of all time over 10,000m, with a personal best of 26:35.63, and is the former world record holder over

10km on road.

He took bronze in his pet event as a 22-year-old at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, his first Olympic appearance.

Four-time Zatopek:10 winner Steve Moneghetti said of Kogo’s inclusion: “It really shows the regard with which the Zatopek is

held, and its ability to attract these sort of athletes will continue to make sure it is regarded as an international event.”

With Kogo almost certain to take pacemaking duties for the race, his presence in the field will be a major boost for the

prospects of Australians Craig Mottram and Ben St Lawrence as they attempt to post a qualifying time for next year’s London

The Zatopek:10 is on Saturday 10 December at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park, and will double as the Olympic selection trial and

Australian 10,000m title. The race will be the feature event of a night of world-class track and field, which will also serve

as the official launch of Melbourne’s new home of athletics.

Tickets are on sale this weekend for just $8 through Ticketmaster.

Why did my post get deleted?

I'm actually looking forward to seeing Marr run.

Edit: now see that Nick is a moderator. Lol! Can't talk about his athletes?

I deleted the posts relating to the new runner because after some consideration I felt it was condescending and unnecessarily brought attention to a new runner for no reason other than personal amusement.

I'm not convinced it is as harmless as you say. Why not mention Josh Ross or one of the other athletes? There is no rhyme or reason to single out the athlete you did. He has no results of note.

It also attracted another comment, and I wanted to nip it in the bud before more smart alec comments were made.

Leave the athlete alone and let him compete without the spotlight.

Nick did not request any deletions. I did it out of respect.
