WHEN Tea Tree Gully Athletics Club’s Daniel Marks takes to the track for the Bay Sheffield, winning will be the last thing on his mind.

Marks, 18, is more concerned about improving his personal best.

“Being 18 it is hard to do too well but I am hoping to improve my times,” Marks, of Redwood Park, said.

“Depending on my mark I am hoping to get amongst the middle of the pack.

“I’d love to make it to the semis ... that is my focus.”

Marks has been at the local athletics club since the under-13s and loves the thrill of a race.

“I really enjoy running. It keeps me fit and healthy and gets me out of the house. I love the rush, the rush of adrenaline and competing against other people.”

A new under-18 event the Messenger Junior Bay Sheffield will be held this year to coincide with the Bay Sheffield’s 125th anniversary.
