I apologise if you cannot see the 70m heats on the forum. There seems to be some technical problem preventing the video being shown on the forum. If you go to the youtube channel, you should see the heats.

Noticed a few runners in the outside lanes ,such as Gross and Grimwade stumble slightly on the first bend.Cant pick it up on the video ,but was there an issue there.
And did it favour the inside lanes.
There was certainly some quality in those inside lanes but the outside ones didnt feature as much as you would have thought with tail wind and downhill run.

The 200m is the hardest sprint race to film as not only is there the natural stagger from lane to lane but add the handicap and athletes are spread out over 30m right around the bend.

I think it is worth trying a reverse of the lane draw and have the red lane on the outside, with the frontmarker in lane one. Athletes would look much closer together and it would be a better spectacle as they come off the bend.

Good move ,second that .
Also while we are on it ,how about moving the red runners in the 70m so they are nearest to the crowd. In otherwards go from RED to brown the other way
Quite often the red runner was hidden by other runners when making their surge. The race being over only 70m the race is over and you hardly see the red.
Not a problem elsewhere as most carnivals hold a 120m or run the other way.

Can someone confirm whether the 200m at Flinders was hand timed from smoke?

Yes, there was a little rise and fall in the outside lane and maybe the next lane as well, almost at the end of the curve - a tail end of a spur ridge from the nearby hillside - maybe 10cm high and a metre or two long ... rather like a skater take off ramp ... not nice ...

Impressive time for the 800 under 20s. Quicker than the opens off a mark of 48 is an impressive run by the young man. Very Happy

There may have been a 10cm rise for the outside lanes, but the back markers were the only runners having to take off directly into that wind.... I think everyone faced tough conditions at times.

10 cm rise or not all lanes have spots which aren't fantastic. I ran in the outside n didn't notice anything so doubtful if it slowed down any frontmarker

Cant say I felt un-settled around the bend, certainly by then end the lactic had kicked in (not sure why that happened, did the training). Having won this event last year cant say that the rise and dip on the corner had an impact then either. Speaking to Steve Butler in his opinion it was going to be a back markers race. Dis-appointing from my aspect to not have done better, I have alot of respect for Brian and his feel for this event.
