LOCAL hero Jordan Caldow will have to produce a stunning performance if he is to win the Port Adelaide Gift this Sunday.

Reigning Bay Sheffield champion Caldow, of Alberton, has been given the backmark for his local gift and will give his nearest rivals more than a 1m head start.

The 18-year-old will go off 3.75m in his heat, with Dale Woodhams (5m) and Wallace Long-Scaffidi (5.5m) the only other athletes starting off backward of 6.5m.

The gift, which is open to men and women, has attracted 39 entrants, with Taylah Scapens (18m) the frontmarker.

The Port Adelaide meeting, which returns to the SA Athletic League calender this year, is the first meeting of a higly-anticipated 2011-12 season.

Athletes will compete for increased prizemoney at the 125th staging of the Bay Sheffield at Colley Reserve, Glenelg, on December 27-28.

Other highlights of the Port Adelaide meeting include a women’s 120m gift, a 300m novice race, men’s and women’s 550m races, and an open mile.

The action gets under way at 1pm at Alan Iverson Reserve, Langham Place, Port Adelaide.
