Quality field set to sprint

STAWELL Gift placegetter Andrew McCabe and defending champion Isaac Dunmall head an in-form list of entries ready to tackle tomorrow's 2011 Heritage Fairholme Gift.

The Fairholme Gift celebrates its 13th running tomorrow afternoon when athletes compete for $4000 in prize money in the 70-metre handicap dash as part of the Fairholme College Spring Fair.

Fairholme head of sport and activities Nick Byron said a lift in prize money for this year's gift had helped attract a quality field.

"We have a very good field this year, with a large number of in-form runners and recent gift winners lining up," Byron said.

McCabe shapes as the likely backmarker for tomorrow's race.

The former Toowoomba product finished third in this year's legendary Stawell Gift.

"Andrew also won the Ballarat Gift and he adds a lot of interest to the event which will also be contested by his twin brother Josh," Byron said.

"But the field has so much depth it will literally be anyone's race.

"Luke Wilkinson from Cabarlah won this year's Ipswich Gift and is another to watch.

"Paul Craccroft-Wilson, a former Stawell Gift competitor, Andrew Hodges and Tom Quinlivan are all other in-form runners."

Tomorrow's racing also features the Stonestreets Coaches Celebrity Charity Relay event with the winning team receiving $500 to donate to a charity of its choice. Entry fee is $20.

The Gift heats begin at 11.30am with the final decided at 2pm.
